Dr. Wilhelm Heinrich Schuessler (1821-1898)
Dr Schuessler was qualified as a physician practicing homoeopathy in Germany. Schuessler was one of Dr Samuel Hahnemann's (the father of homoeopathy) followers, and as a practicing homoeopath he was familiar with, and used, the full repertoire of homoeopathic remedies.
Schuessler's research led him to focus on the inorganic (mineral) substances that were based on
12 essential minerals that the body's tissues require for good health and maintenance. And it was from his research that he identified and produced the 12 Tissue Salts.
(The additional 15 trace minerals were discovered later by pupils of Dr. Schuessler.)
“The foundation of Biochemistry (the chemistry of living tissues) was laid more than a century ago, when Rudolph Virchow, one of the foremost scientists of the day, discovered that the human body is composed of an enormous number of tiny, living cells, each one made up of an infinitesimal but perfectly balanced quantity of three classes of materials: water, organic substances and inorganic substances.
Water and organic matter such as sugar, albuminous and fatty substances make up the greater portion of the body.
The inorganic (mineral) elements, however, although present in very much smaller quantities, are the really vital elements, the active workers which utilise the inactive substances in building the millions of cells of which the body is composed” (http://schuesslertissuesalts.com.au/about/history/).
